S/V BOB is a well-kept Catalina/Morgan 50 with three guest cabins and one crew cabin. Each cabin has a large double berth with private head and shower. The boat has been customized with equipment to stay warm and dry while sailing in Southeast Alaska; including three heating systems, a hard dodger, a completely enclosed cockpit. We have a 110hp diesel engine to provide power when the wind is too light to sail. S/V BOB was designed for the charter trade and is the perfect boat for comfortable sailing and exploring our waters for up to six people on the boat each trip. http://www.soundsailing.com
We are licensed by the US Coast Guard and fully insured and permitted. We take pride in providing safe and fun adventures in Southeast Alaska, and always leave a clean wake. Activities depend largely on what your interests are, but include sailing, kayaking, hiking, fishing, visiting small communities, watching icebergs calve off of tidewater glaciers, and soaking in natural hot springs. Or, sit on the large deck and just watch the scenery go by. The area we sail is composed mostly of the Tongass National Forest, Admiralty Island National Monument and Wilderness, and Glacier Bay National Park.
Wildlife is abundant on all our itineraries. We often see humpback whales, orca, Dall's porpoise, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, harbor porpoise, sea otters, river otters, and other sea mammals. On shore we regularly see deer, mountain goats, brown bear, and black bear. There are scads of birds including bald eagles, loons, kingfishers, gulls, murrelettes, puffins, scoters, harlequin ducks, golden-eyes, mergansers and many more. Let us know what your interests are and we'll suggest dates and an itinerary to maximize your enjoyment.
Most of our itineraries sail on the protected waters of the Inside Passage. We normally anchor in isolated coves for the night - although we sometimes tie up to a dock. No sailing experience is necessary--you are welcome to do as much or as little as you like while you're aboard.
We do the cooking and cleaning so you can relax and enjoy the incredible scenery and wildlife. All meals and non-alcoholic beverages are included. We like to catch our dinner and specialize in uber-fresh seafood dishes, so our guests are encouraged to get a fishing license. We often catch king salmon and silver salmon, halibut, and rock fish. If you’d like to have wine, beer or liquor aboard, it’s no problem - we can order ahead from one of our local stores for pick-up.
We do six day trips (leave the dock at 9 AM on day 1 and get back in at 9 AM on day 7) in and out of Sitka, Juneau or Petersburg. The cost of these trips is $2575/person (regular season rate).
We also do nine day trips (leave at 9 AM on day 1 and get in at 9 AM on day 10) that normally work between towns. For example, we might leave Sitka and arrive in Petersburg or Juneau. Our 9 day trips run $3445/person (regular season rate) and allow an unhurried exploration with more time to hike, kayak, watch whales, fish, or whatever you’d like to do.
Our spectacular Glacier Bay trips run nine days are round-trip from Juneau, returning on the morning of day 10. We are one of only a handful of boats with permits to Glacier Bay National Park, and can’t recommend this trip highly enough. Glacier Bay trips run $3925/person.
If you have a group of six (that fills the whole boat) you will get a 10% discount for everyone. There is a surcharge to take a double cabin for just one person. Finally, there is 6% sales tax on the first $1500 of any round trip to Sitka (this is weird Sitka thing only). We also to full-boat charter discounts if you have less than 6 people in your party. Basically the sixth person goes free.
We can do trips of custom length, but 6 days is the shortest trip we prefer. Sound Sailing has been running skippered sailing charters in Southeast Alaska for more than twenty years. I personally run the trips myself with my wife Monique, and have five years of experience sailing in this area, and know the waters, anchorages, and fishing spots well.
Thanks again for your interest in our trips. Please let me know if you have any questions whatsoever, or if you would like to know what dates are available. Often a phone call is much better for planning a trip. You can also get more information from our website at: http://www.soundsailing.com
